Steam boiler to recover heat from fuel engine exhaust gases

We have recently completed this interesting project, which includes a steam boiler to recover heat from exhaust gases from engines running on heavy fuel oil.

The complexity of the project comes mainly from the dirt which is intrinsic to fuel engine exhaust gases, along with problems of corrosion resulting from these gases condensing in the economiser.

The solutions implemented to alleviate these problems were as follows:

  • Inclusion of an economiser with pipes and fins made from cast steel, designed for a pressure of 20barg, in accordance with ASME code.
  • Internal cleaning system for the economiser pipes, thanks to a washing ramp and the valves required for operation with cold water.

In addition to the aforementioned equipment, CERNEY’s supply includes:

  • Boiler
  • Switchboard and local control board
  • Switchboard and control board located in the adjoining room
  • Gas diverter
  • Pump module

The boiler is now installed and commissioned, and is working to the satisfaction of the customer.
